About the Artist

My voice as an offering

I am a multidisciplinary artist and cultural worker moving fluidly across theater, film, television, and digital media. At the core of everything is el cuento: the story, as a living tool for cultural memory, healing, and social transformation.

The Foundation

Roots & the Radical Dignity of Labor

Raised in San Diego, in one of the most militarized corridors along the U.S.–Mexico border, my artistic voice was forged in the constant crossing between two countries, two languages, and multiple ways of being in the world. As a first-generation Latina, I came up cleaning houses with my mother and offices with my parents. Those late night Fridays, those hands, el esfuerzo form part of my foundation as an artist. My lens is rooted in working-class resilience and the radical dignity of labor, honoring the lives of communities rendered invisible by systems that were never built for us.

The Sacred Ground

Alchemy & Transformation

El teatro was my first home. Through rigorous training and years of performance, I found the stage as sacred ground where voice, body, and collective imagination create the kind of shifts that stay with you long after the lights go down. That foundation now expands into film, television, and digital media, where I continue to seek new forms for stories that challenge injustice and open dialogue.

My creative process is also shaped by my own journey through healing. As someone living with complex PTSD, I have walked the long road through therapy, ancestral reconnection, and the slow reclamation of self. This is the work. I believe in the alchemy of transformation, in taking what has been broken or buried and turning it into something that breathes, that testifies, that liberates.

Witness & Reality

The border comes
with me

I live and create in a border region under intensified immigration surveillance. I have participated in community patrols. I have witnessed raids that fracture families and sow fear into the rhythms of daily life. These realities don't stay outside the rehearsal room. They come with me. My work bears witness to these truths while insisting, always, on the full humanity and dignity of immigrant communities.

The Present and the Promise

Returning to our roots to heal the future.

Coming Home

Currently, I am developing a solo theatrical work, an intimate and audacious piece exploring my queer coming-out journey within a Catholic upbringing, weaving together fe, lineage, memory, and the long process of coming home to oneself. The piece reaches back to my family's roots in Mexico, to nature, to the body, to the sacred ordinary.

This is what Atrevida means

Daring. The courage to tell the truth. To turn wounds into wisdom. To make art as an ofrenda, an offering, to the ancestors who carried us here and the communities we are building forward.

Todo con ganas. Always, Kati
